CCISD Superintendent Roland Hernandez selected as chairman of UIL Legislative Council

Correction: This story was updated to correct Roland Hernandez’s name in a headline.

Corpus Christi ISD Superintendent Roland Hernandez was selected to be the chairman of the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council at the organization’s fall meeting in Austin on Monday.

Hernandez, who was previously the first vice chair of the committee, will become the first chairman from the Coastal Bend and only the second Hispanic chairman in the organization’s 83-year history.

The Legislative Council is composed of superintendents or assistant superintendents of member districts across the state with one representative per region, per classification and eight at-large members, appointed by the chair of the council.

The role of the council is to act on proposed amendments with a majority required to change an eligibility rule or make a major change in UIL policy that would apply across Texas.

Rules that get approval by the council or by vote of member schools also require further approval from the commissioner of education before they are implemented.
