Dog Abandoned Amidst Hurricane

A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly leaving his dog, Jumbo, tied to a pole near a freeway as Hurricane Milton approached. Giovanny Aldama Garcia told authorities he was evacuating to Georgia and couldn’t find anyone to take care of the bull terrier.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized that criminals face harsher penalties during a state of emergency. Garcia has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

The dog, now named Trooper, was rescued by Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Morales during heavy rain. Despite his initial growling, the trooper reassured the distressed animal.

Governor Ron DeSantis condemned the incident, vowing to hold the owner accountable. Trooper is currently in foster care in Tallahassee and will be available for adoption.

The Leon County Humane Society is providing Trooper with care and support. The organization said he is still anxious and requires time to recover before being considered for adoption.
