ALGOMA – A mother whose 21-year-old daughter and unborn granddaughter were brutally murdered in Door County 12 years ago is holding an event in Algoma she says is to help people heal and gain hope.
Sherry Anicich is bringing “Night of Hope,” which she describes as “an evening of reflection, healing and strength,” to St. Mary Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. It is free to attend but preregistration is required.
It’s part of what Anicich does to help her own healing journey, help others heal and remember her daughter, Alisha Bromfield.
Bromfield, from Plainfield, Illinois, was six months pregnant with a girl who would have been named Ava Lucille when she came to Door County Aug. 19, 2012, with then-36-year-old Brian Cooper, her work supervisor and not the father of Bromfield’s child, to attend the wedding of Cooper’s sister.
Following an argument after the wedding at the resort where they were staying over Bromfield not wanting to have a relationship with him, Cooper strangled a sleeping Bromfield, killing the unborn Ava, and sexually assaulted Bromfield’s body before calling law enforcement and confessing.
