Deadly crash reported on SH 71 near Old Bee Caves Road Friday morning

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Lanes were closed in both directions on State Highway 71 in southwest Austin due to a crash early Friday morning.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) posted on X at 7:29 a.m. saying all lanes of westbound and eastbound SH 71 were closed at Old Bee Caves Road and traffic at the time was being detoured to Southwest Parkway.

TxDOT said in an update at 9:30 a.m. that westbound traffic was being diverted to Midwood Parkway and eastbound traffic was being diverted to Southwest Parkway.

That crash was reported as a traffic fatality on the Austin-Travis County Traffic Report Page at 6:55 a.m. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office was listed as the responding agency.

Austin-Travis County EMS said one adult patient was involved, and that person was pronounced dead on the scene.
