Unsurprisingly, Ohio State’s national championship odds took a hit after the Buckeyes 32-31 loss to Oregon. But how much? And did it lead to more congestion among the favorites?
When national title odds opened at the BetMGM online sportsbook in January, Ohio State was +700, behind only Georgia (+500) and Alabama (+600). Over the next nine months, they gradually climbed, peaking as the outright favorite at +300 entering Week 7.
Ohio State: +300
Texas: +450
Georgia: +500
Alabama: +600
Oregon: +900
While the Buckeyes are no longer favored after dropping to 5-1, they’re tied for the second-shortest odds and still ahead of the undefeated Ducks:
Texas: +375
Ohio State: +450
Georgia: +450
Oregon: +550
Alabama: +850
All other teams are +1400 or longer, including Ohio State’s Week 9 opponent, Penn State (+1400). The Nittany Lions and every other team, however, are still not as popular of a title pick as the Buckeyes, who maintained their lead in both tickets (15.2%) and handle (18.9%).
