Four Sumatran Tiger Cubs Born at Polish Zoo

The Wrocław Zoo in Poland has welcomed four adorable Sumatran tiger cubs, a critically endangered species with only 400 individuals remaining in the wild.

The cubs, born on July 22nd, were kept a secret for weeks to ensure their survival. Now that they have grown stronger and received vaccinations, the zoo has proudly announced their arrival.

Each cub weighs over 18 pounds and is thriving. They play together and interact with their parents, Nuri and Tengah. Notably, Tengah has shown exceptional care for the cubs, helping Nuri with their upbringing.

The zoo considers the birth a “breeding success on a global scale.” The cubs’ gender distribution (three males and one female) will aid in balancing populations in European zoos, where females are more common.

The cubs’ future destinations are still undetermined, and they have yet to be named. The zoo is considering involving visitors in the naming process.

Sumatran tigers face severe threats from poaching and habitat loss. The Wrocław Zoo supports their protection through its foundation, working to ensure the survival of this magnificent species.
