We thought it might be fun to let everyone in on the action with this month’s cocktailin’ adventure! We did a little preview of the upcoming Hog & Barrel festival — scheduled for November 1 st and 2 nd at Events at Judson Mill — and felt that we would be remiss in not giving you a heads-up on this opportunity to celebrate the quintessential Southern staples: BBQ, bacon … and our favorite — bourbon!

A party with a purpos e
Hog & Barrel: A Bourbon, BBQ and Bacon Festival supports the Culinary Institute of the Carolinas at Greenville Tech, with proceeds benefiting the scholarship and equipment fund for the college. The two-day festival features bourbon tastings, live music, signature dishes and artisan crafters. Participating chefs and mixologists will compete for prizes for best dish and best bourbon cocktails! We got to sip on some of the potential elixirs “in-the-running.”
Smoked Old Fashioned
While all of the traditional ingredients are featured here, there are a couple of “high-spirited” upgrades that take this old classic to the next level! A splash of brown-sugar simple syrup and pecan wood smoke elevate this classic cocktail and add just the right nuttiness and complexity. Bitters add an additional layer of flavor while a cherry is the perfect finishing touch. Holy smokes!
