A ‘Second line to the polls’ event kicked off early voting

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Friday kicked off the start of early voting in Louisiana, and the push to get you to the polls started in typical New Orleans style.

Organizations around New Orleans secondlined to the polls to encourage the public to cast their votes.

“Today is the first day of early voting and we want to make sure we support our partners. Mainly just here to say that we are in support of everybody getting out the vote and doing what we have to do for our community in the world we live in,” said Executive Director of Women with the Vision Inc. Deon Haywood.

Early voting for presidential election starts Oct. 18 in Louisiana

Step Up Louisiana Organizer Samara Smith says it’s refreshing to see people excited, adding that an early vote is a sure vote.

“People really have been paying attention to what’s coming on the ballot, not just the presidential information, but the stuff that’s on the local ballot, because that’s what we really, really are trying to push. But Step Up Louisiana is making sure people know that there are more issues that are going to be on the ballot than just who’s running for president,” said Smith.
