A North Jersey man was identified as the pilot who died in a plane that crashed in Savannah on Sunday night, according to police.
Boris Yusupov, of Glen Rock, was flying from Miami Executive Airport at 6:16 p.m. and crashed in midtown Savannah just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 13, according to FlightAware.
One other passenger was on the plane with Yusupov, but the identity has not yet been released, although the person was able to escape with minor injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the crash. A preliminary report with factual information from the initial phase of the investigation is expected within 30 days of the accident, and a final report, which will contain contributing factors of the crash, is expected in 12 to 24 months.
The plane was a 1964 CESSNA 336 and was co-owned by Jorge Marti of Miami, who was selling the plane for $85,000 in a Cessna Skymaster Fans Facebook group.
A Savannah-based aircraft mechanic and owner of a different CESSNA plane, Brian Leftwich, believes the engine running out of fuel could be the reason for the crash.
