IL African Descent-Citizens Reparations Commision hosts Public Hearing in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The State of Illinois African Descent-Citizens Reparations Commission (ADCRC) held an event in Springfield this Saturday.

On Oct. 19, the ADCRC hosted the third stop on its series of statewide public hearings to discuss reparatory actions for Black Americans in Illinois who are descendants of American Chattel Slavery.

The event was held at Southeast High School from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and was livestreamed on the Illinois ADCRC YouTube channel.

Through these public hearings, the commission looks to gather recommendations on reparations from the general public for policymakers and stakeholders.

“This public hearing will provide a space for Springfield and central Illinois citizens to share their experiences, ensuring their voices are heard and validated,” said ADCRC Commissioner Twyla Moore. “These public hearings hosted by the ADCRC aim to promote accountability, inspire policy changes, and pave the way for a more equitable society.”
