Celtic Ray sentencing delayed to November

PUNTA GORDA — Hurricane Milton delayed the sentencing of the Celtic Ray shooter until next month.

Carlos Colon-Parrilla, 30, had pleaded no contest to charges of shooting at a building and aggravated assault with a firearm in August.

Originally scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, his sentencing was delayed until Nov. 20 — in part due to Internet connectivity issues for remote witnesses and fears of a gas shortage limiting his attorney’s travel options.

Colon-Parrilla was originally arrested in 2022, after witnesses reported seeing him pull a rifle from his car and fire at the East Marion Avenue establishment.

Employees told police that he had been escorted out of the restaurant shortly before the shooting took place due to his belligerence.

No injuries were reported after the shooting, though bullet holes were found in the Celtic Ray’s walls afterward.

Colon-Parrilla drove away from the scene before Punta Gorda police officers arrived and a warrant was issued for his arrest; he was ultimately surrendered to police in Connecticut and was extradited back to Charlotte County.
