Magic City Fashion Week showcases fashion in Birmingham area

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The fifth Magic City Fashion Week kicked off Thursday.

Magic City Fashion Week was founded by Daniel Grier in 2017. According to its website , “Magic City Fashion Week is a 501(c)3 that aims to cultivate, connect, showcase and provide economic opportunity for the artistic community of Birmingham, AL through fashion.”

The week started off with an event Thursday supporting Forge Breast Cancer Center. This event, Haute Pink, included 10 breast cancer survivors walking the runway in designs created by 10 Birmingham-based fashion and costume designers.

On Friday, Magic City Fashion Week hosted a talk with Council of Fashion Designers of America CEO Steven Kolb at the University of Alabama’s Drummond Hall. During this event, Kolb discussed the future of fashion through sustainability and technology. A second event scheduled for Friday, the Emerging Designer Showcase, was canceled.
