Backyard fire displaces 1, several pets in northwest Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — One person and several pets were displaced after a fire in northwest Las Vegas on Saturday.

The fire broke out in the backyard of a home near the intersection of Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards in northwest Las Vegas on Saturday evening, prompting a two-alarm response from local fire departments.

Dispatchers received the report just after 6 p.m. Firefighters arrived approximately five minutes later. Due to the rapidly spreading flames, the response was escalated to a second alarm.

Crews from North Las Vegas and the City of Las Vegas joined Clark County firefighters. In total, 71 personnel responded to the fire, including 10 engines, four trucks, four rescues, three battalion chiefs, one air resource unit, one EMS supervisor, and two fire investigators.

Southwest Gas and NV Energy crews also responded to secure the utility services, while the American Red Cross was called to assist one displaced person and several pets.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
