Report Card: Grading Iowa’s performance in the 32-20 loss to Michigan State

Here are HawkeyeInsider’s grades from Iowa’s 32-20 loss to Michigan State on Saturday. Iowa’s passing attack basically did nothing in the first half as the Hawkeyes threw for a total of 30 yards. In the second half, things started to come alive a little bit more. Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara made a couple of big completions to Reece Vander Zee, including an 18-yard touchdown pass, along with a 28-yard reception to Luke Lachey. McNamara finished the game 11-of-23 for 150 yards with one touchdown and an interception, one that came at a costly time in the second half that put the momentum back in favor of Michigan State. The Spartans did not respect Iowa’s passing game much and the Hawkeyes were able to make some adjustments in the second half to show improvement, but McNamara missed on too many throws and was out of sync for most of the night.
