On Oct. 31, couples dressed in their best Halloween costumes will be able to join hands in marriage during a spooky ceremony at the Marion County Justice Court.

To reserve this ceremony experience, couples will need to make an appointment and have an official marriage license ready to go.

“We’ll decorate the courtroom and offer ghoulish treats to celebrate the big ‘I boo,’” county officials said. “And couples who brave this bloodcurdling marriage day need never fear forgetting their anniversary.”

Judge Justin Kidd said the ceremony will accept marriages of all kinds — beyond just “witches, wizards, and wandering spirits” — to celebrate marriage as a fundamental right.

“This kind of celebration might seem silly, but it serves an important purpose. It makes clear that the court is available to everyone,” Judge Kidd said.

To make an appointment, call the Marion County court at 503.576.7200.
