Tennessee Vols true freshman defensive back Boo Carter had a moment on Saturday night in UT’s win against the Alabama Crimson Tide that will live forever in the Third Saturday in October lore.
With less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter and Alabama trailing 21-17, Carter drew a key personal foul penalty on Crimson tide wide receiver Kendrick Law that resulted in a 4th-and-22 situation (Bama would turn the ball over on downs, which led to a field goal for the Vols).
Law was called for a penalty for shoving Carter’s head. The penalty came after Carter was in Law’s ear talking trash.
Alabama fans, somewhat understandably, wanted an offsetting penalty there.
The moment was reminiscent of Florida’s Dallas Baker getting called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after retaliating against Vols defensive back Jonathan Wade.
Both calls certainly helped Tennessee. And hey, sometimes against a rival you need every little thing that can get.
Regardless of how you feel about that penalty, there’s no doubt that Tennessee and Alabama fans will forever remember it.
