Woman found shot to death in St. Paul apartment

An investigation is underway after a fatal shooting in St. Paul’s North End, and police believe a violent carjacking nearby may be connected.

The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. Saturday on the 100 block of Sycamore Street East, where 911 calls reported shots fired in an apartment building. According to a news release from the St. Paul Police Department, responding officers found a woman inside an apartment suffering from gunshot injuries.

The officers provided first aid until the arrival of St. Paul Fire medics, who pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, about two blocks away on Acker St. E., a responding police sergeant was flagged down about a carjacking in which the victim had been shot and their vehicle taken by the suspect.

The victim was taken to Regions Hospital with with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Preliminary information points to these two crimes being related, but more investigation needs to be done to confirm this connection,” police say.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and publicly identify the woman in the apartment in the coming days.
