No one injured in Chandler police shooting following reports of gunshots

No one is injured after a Chandler police officer fired his weapon at a person police say was pointing a gun at them.

Chandler police officers responded to a residence near Arizona Avenue and Ray Road after receiving a call reporting gunshots from a neighboring residence just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

Officials say responding officers set up a perimeter outside the residence when officers heard multiple gunshots from the backyard. One officer saw a person point a gun toward police, prompting the officer to shoot at the individual.

Police said no one — including officers — was injured despite the gunshots. Three people inside the residence were detained. Police did not say whether officers booked anyone into jail or if police submitted criminal charges to prosecutors as of Sunday morning.

Chandler police said Mesa police would investigate the incident as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team.
