Susan Smith, convicted of drowning her two sons in 1994, is scheduled for a parole hearing next month

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – Susan Smith, a South Carolina woman convicted of drowning her children 30 years ago, will appear before a parole board next month.

The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services announced on Monday that Smith will appear for a parole hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Smith, of Union County, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her children in Oct. 1994. As part of her sentencing, she became automatically eligible for parole this year.

She is currently incarcerated at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood.

Last week, the South Carolina Department of Corrections said Smith had been charged after she reportedly spoke to a documentary filmmaker about her case.
