‘Stand up’: Local groups to counter Westboro Baptist Church valley visits

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Members with the Westboro Baptist Church are planning to speak outside of two Fresno County high schools next week.

The group is known for its anti-gay beliefs. Its members also travel across the country to carry out protests at military funerals, in front of holocaust museums and other locations in order to spread their ideologies.

The church said it did not schedule the events with officials on campus but did release a statement about its plans:

“We warn against proud sin as God the creator of all requires that we fear and obey Him. We do what we have been doing on the streets of this nation for going on 34 years. If students come up to us and ask us questions, we will be happy to answer them.”

The church’s members will be at Roosevelt High School on Oct. 28 and Reedley High School on Oct. 31.
