Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Fentanyl Trafficking and ISIS Support

A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl and attempting to provide material support to ISIS, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced today.

Jason Brown, 41, of Lombard, Illinois, pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to provide material support to ISIS, one count of distributing fentanyl, and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, Brown admitted that on three occasions in 2019, he provided $500 in cash to an individual with the understanding that the money would be wired to an ISIS soldier engaged in terrorist activity in Syria.

Unbeknownst to Brown, the individual was confidentially working with law enforcement, and the purported ISIS fighter was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

Brown further admitted that in 2019 he trafficked fentanyl from California to the Chicago suburbs and illegally possessed several loaded handguns in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities.
