South Alabama Veterans plan trip to support state VA commissioner

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A battle is brewing again as Alabama’s Governor seeks to remove the state’s Commissioner of Veterans Affairs. Local Veterans are joining the fight. This is almost a replay of what happened last month.

Just last week the governor called another special meeting claiming Davis had manipulated members of the state board of Veterans Affairs. It’s not clear what could happen or what action the board could take this week.

Tuesday morning, members of the South Alabama Veterans Council will charter a bus to Montgomery to support Commissioner Kent Davis.

Governor Kay Ivey called a special meeting of the State Board of Veterans Affairs to consider removing him from office. Last month Ivey asked Davis to resign claiming he had mismanaged the department– Davis at first declined and later agreed to resign at the end of the year .

Published reports say the board met in September and asked Davis to rescind his resignation . Supporters say the admiral has made real changes for veterans.
