Eau Claire man sentenced to three years for wire fraud scheme

MADISON (WKBT) — An Eau Claire man convicted of wire fraud will spend three years in prison.

A federal judge in Madison sentenced 45-year-old Robert Carter Thursday.

Carter was convicted of a scheme to defraud leasing companies by forging financial statements with the intent of obtaining semi-trucks in 2020.

Carter leased 13 semis and two trailers using fraudulently obtained financial statements from a Fond du Lac-based trucking company and a charitable Iowa trust, according to the DOJ.

Carter was found guilty of wire fraud and attempted wire fraud following a jury trial in July.
