Pundit: White Voters Must Save Democracy

Additional Coverage:

Political commentator Angela Rye criticized “White folks” for not voting, saying they should be held accountable for not “saving democracy.”

Rye believes White people prioritize superficial displays of patriotism over real actions like voting. She called for White men and women, the largest demographic in the US, to take responsibility for saving democracy.

Rye criticized those who attack presidential candidates for not wearing flag pins or pledging allegiance, saying the true face of patriotism is the January 6th Capitol attack. She urged White people to march to the polls instead of protesting after elections.

Rye’s comments followed former President Obama’s urging of Black men to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. Obama had expressed concern over their lack of enthusiasm, suggesting sexism might be a factor.

According to a recent poll, Harris’ support among Black voters has declined, particularly among Black men. Obama had suggested that some Black men might be uncomfortable with the idea of a female president.
