2 arrested following traffic stops in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two people following traffic stops.

Mark Morton, 52, was charged with drug trafficking, drug possession with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Morton is in custody of the Jefferson County Jail with a $530,300 bond.

Shelby County woman charged with child sex crime

Phillip Johnson, 35, was charged with three counts of drug trafficking. Johnson is in custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a GMC at the intersection of 2nd Place Northwest on Oct. 16, the stop resulted in an arrest and seizure of narcotics and money. JCSO also stopped a Chevy Tahoe in the 400 block of Bethel Road in a related operation. That stop resulted in an arrest and seizure of narcotics and a weapon.

“Information is key. No one knows more about what is occurring in a neighborhood than the people who live there,” Sheriff Mark Pettway stated in a press release. “We are very appreciative of those who come forward with information to help us. It is critical that we continue to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. My main goal is to keep the citizens of Jefferson County safe.”
