The Alabama radio booth went viral in the aftermath of the Crimson Tide’s loss to the Tennessee Vols after they made a strange accusation about UT football.
Alabama play-by-play man Chris Stewart, who really does a fantastic job calling Crimson Tide games, suggested at one point during the game, when the crowd at Neyland was rocking, that Tennessee pipes in crowd noise.
“Second-and-16 is not what you’re looking for — especially with the noise level being what it is here,” said Stewart. “You got 100,000 plus and they also pipe in crowd noise as well.”
What an odd thing to say while calling a game. I mean, it’s not like accusing a team of piping in crowd noise is anything new, but that’s a comment that’s usually reserved for bar stools, social media, and/or college football message boards.
Making that comment while on the air with no proof makes it seem like Stewart was just trying to dismiss how loud Neyland got during the Vols’ win against Alabama.
Additionally, piping in crowd noise is against SEC rules, as WNML’s Brian Rice pointed out , so that’s quite an accusation to make without proof.
