Tennessee athletic director Danny White dismissed the claim Monday that UT pipes fake crowd noise into Neyland Stadium.
“No, we don’t!” White posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Just 100K+ beautiful, booming, Big Orange voices!”
White’s remarks were in response to Alabama play-by-play broadcaster Chris Stewart’s assertion Saturday on the Crimson Tide Sports Network that UT was pumping “in-crowd noise as well” on top of the roar of a sellout crowd. The Vols beat Alabama 24-17 for the second straight time at home.
A UT spokesperson refuted Stewart’s comment earlier Monday, as did tight ends coach Alec Abeln at the Knoxville Quarterback Club.
“I have been places where they do pump in the crowd noise,” Abeln said. “It is 100% legit in that building.”
AJ McCarron adds to Alabama radio announcer’s claim about Neyland Stadium crowd noise
Alabama was called for a false start on its second play of the game Saturday, which prompted Stewart to declare that Tennessee used speakers to add noise beyond the sellout crowd of 101,915.
