NICU tech in Henderson offers hope for preemie families

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Complications with delivering a baby could mean an infant will be cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

A Henderson mother and father Linda and Sammy Miceli shared their experience and discussed new technology the hospital is currently trying to offer patients.

Linda’s pregnancy was very smooth initially, however, everything changed in the third trimester.

“I was diagnosed with cholestasis, and then ultimately I had preeclampsia,” Linda said.

“You wake up one day and there’s an emergency. Everything you thought you had, like weeks or months to prepare for is condensed into a few minutes running out the door,” Sammy added.

Their baby girl, River born at 29 weeks of age.

“Initially when River was born, she wasn’t breathing and Linda was still in surgery. I didn’t personally know if baby made it, and then did my wife make it,” he said.

Linda was confined to a hospital bed for a week, and baby River received critical life-saving care for up to two months.
