Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen in need of financial donations

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen says it needs your help to keep the doors open.

The CEO tells News 19 that the biggest need is for monetary donations that can go towards operating costs like utilities, and delivery truck maintenance.

“It takes a whole lot more than just serving food,” Theresa Wilson said about running the non-profit organization. “Right now we are struggling financially to keep our doors open.”

She said the donations would go towards other operating expenses.

“It’s utilities, it’s insurance, it’s keeping up our box trucks so we can pick up the food,” Wilson said.

The organization is asking for financial donations to help with those operating costs.

“That way we can keep the ovens hot, and the freezers cold,” she said.

The soup kitchen serves about 4,000 meals a month. But due to financial problems, it is cutting back to only serving meals three days a week. The CEO says their mission is to be a haven of hope and serve people with dignity.
