In response to Florida’s ongoing affordable housing crisis, a new development is set to bring relief to residents seeking more affordable living options. A former lumber yard, located near the beloved Pinellas Trail and the Warehouse Arts District, is scheduled for demolition, making room for the construction of affordable housing units. The Fairfield Apartments project has been in the works for some time and is now moving forward after significant planning and approvals.
The Fairfield Apartments Project, first approved by the St. Petersburg City Council in 2022, will introduce 264 affordable housing units to the area, located at 31st Street South and Fairfield Avenue. The city council also allocated $9.7 million in November 2023 to help fund the development. Former Florida Senator Jeff Brandes, who is involved in the project, confirmed that demolition is expected to begin soon, pending contractor availability and final approval of permits.
The project will offer a variety of amenities, including a community pool, playground, picnic spots, and barbecue areas, making it an attractive option for families and individuals in need of affordable housing.
