Arrest made in deadly Flat Rock Road shooting

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — The day after a deadly shooting on Flat Rock Road, Columbus police confirm a murder suspect has been taken into custody in connection to the case.

Police say Bryant Butler, 40, was arrested after a brief standoff with authorities. Butler is being charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Initial Report: Murder investigation underway on Flat Rock Road in Columbus

On Sunday morning, police responded to the 6000 block of Flat Rock Road at about 7:10 a.m. regarding a woman dead and in a ditch.

Officers found Shacoya Baker, 35, had been shot multiple times. Baker was pronounced dead at 8 a.m.

Butler is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 8 a.m.
