Seven Mississippi Counties Under Burn Ban

Over the last week, multiple counties in the lower half of Mississippi have enacted burn bans.

According to Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, due to a lack of rain and dry weather, the entire state of Mississippi is currently under a warning for dangerous fire conditions.

In these types of conditions, any fire activity that might take place, no matter how small and seemingly innocuous, could potentially spiral out of control. The jump from a small flame to an out of control blaze could take mere minutes in the current state of weather.

Counties currently experiencing a burn ban are Simpson, Wayne, Franklin, Wilkinson, Amite, Pike, and Walthall.

There are certain exceptions to the burn ban declaration, and the list of exemptions can be seen at mfc.ms.gov .

More information will be released as it becomes available. Citizens should see Mississippi Emergency Management Agency’s Facebook page for updates.
