Legislators meet privately with AG on corruption

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — The panel of lawmakers who oversee how state government performs met privately on Monday morning with South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley at the state Capitol about allegations of corrupt criminal practices in two departments.

Jackley told KELOLAND News after the 30-minute executive session with the Legislature’s Government Operations and Audit Committee that he wouldn’t discuss specific details.

“They’re looking at finding ways, policies and procedures to improve our system here in South Dakota. Certainly they take the taxpayers’ dollar seriously. Part of my responsibility as attorney general is to generally inform the Legislature of the investigations that are occurring, to generally inform the Legislature of what we’re finding in those investigations, and then of course they’ll do separate proceedings and make their own determinations of what laws can be improved, what safeguards can be put in place, including with auditing,” Jackley said.
