Riley was real after MJ went off to close out the most challenging Bulls series since the battle against Detroit: “We probably should have played the game yesterday”

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were not spared from struggles despite their record-setting run during the 90s when they had two different three-peats. One example of the hurdles they had to overcome happened during the 1992 Eastern Conference semifinals when they went up against the New York Knicks.

Being the defending champions at the time, most expected the Bulls to have no problem beating the Knicks . However, that was not the case. New York gave Chicago a battle to remember, and the series needed seven games to finish.

Thankfully, Michael Jordan and the Bulls were able to rediscover their form in time. MJ dropped a game-high 42 points in that win, leading Chicago to a 110-81 rout of New York.

More than they bargained for

After that win, Jordan admitted that the Knicks gave them quite a challenge. He admitted that they initially thought they could sweep the Knickerbockers, but Patrick Ewing and company had other things in mind.

“This is by far the most challenging series we’ve been in since two years ago against Detroit when we went seven games and lost,” Jordan said . “We did kind of walk into this series thinking it very well possibly could be a sweep.”
