Collin County teenager still recovering after being trampled by Dallas police horse at State Fair, family files lawsuit

For two weeks a Collin County teenager has been recovering after being trampled by a Dallas police horse at the State Fair. Now, his family has filed a lawsuit.

Two weeks ago today, 17-year-old Ian Macharia and his family were at the fair, standing near Big Tex when a Dallas police mounted patrol officer was thrown from his horse — and the horse careened through the crowd, running Ian down.

He was taken to the hospital and has been recovering from what his mom calls a traumatic brain injury that caused a seizure. In filing the lawsuit, the family’s lawyer says those in charge need to be held accountable. “We want to get justice for the family and we want to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” says the family’s lawyer.

The million-dollar lawsuit names both the City of Dallas and its police department along with the State Fair.
