Fact check: Arizona District 4 legislative candidates falsely tied to pedophile group

Political signs near the city line between Phoenix and Scottsdale falsely alleged two Democratic state legislative candidates were endorsed by a group that wants to abolish age-of-consent laws.

Karen Gresham, running for the state House of Representatives, and Christine Marsh, running for reelection to the state Senate, told The Republic their respective campaigns were not endorsed by the group the North American Man/Boy Love Association, as was falsely alleged in several signs spotted in northeast Phoenix.

A Phoenix spokesperson said the signs were investigated after a complaint was received at the city’s Planning and Development Department, which found the signs violated state law requiring a phone number and contact for any political sign on Arizona streets.

Nine of the signs were found and removed by the city as of Oct. 17, with more planned to be removed soon, according to Teleia Galaviz, Phoenix spokesperson.

The signs were found along Scottsdale Road near the Loop 101.

Here’s what we know about the fake political signs and why Gresham and Marsh rejected any allegations of an endorsement from NAMBLA.
