Wattsburg community gives back after fire destroys local family’s belongings

A weekend fire leaves an area family searching for answers after losing everything they own.

The fire happened Saturday morning in the 13,000 block of Route 8 in Venango Township.

Thankfully, the parents and their four children are all safe.

The Maxon family had been living in their house on Route 8 for three years when a fire tragically took most of their belongings.

Now, the Wattsburg community and school district are looking to help the family get back on their feet.

“Nine years worth of memories are gone within seconds, minutes,” said Jeremy Maxon, a Wattsburg resident.

On Saturday morning, Jeremy and Kayla Maxon came home to the unthinkable.

“I arrived at about, I’d say nine, and… the house was fully engulfed in flames. There were eight crews here, eight fire crews here, and the whole house was gone,” said Kayla and Jeremy Maxon.

Although Maxon’s brother and sister were home at the time, no one was hurt in the fire.
