Volunteers Fill Dumpster With Litter Removed from Ball Ground Creek

Volunteers including Cub Scout Pack 1755 and Boy Scout Troup 1755, met Saturday to participate in the fourth annual Rivers Alive Ball Ground Creek Clean Up.

Litter collected by over 60 people amounted to fill an eight-yard dumpster. Plastic beverage containers were the most common item collected. Other items included 20-foot fencing and part of a dog crate.

This annual event is hosted by the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority and the City of Ball Ground.

Additional Rivers Alive clean-ups have occurred in Cherokee County over the last few weeks. Seventy- five volunteers met to collect 90 bags of litter at the Etowah River Clean-up Oct. 12. On Oct. 19, 84 volunteers collected 60 bags of litter from Little River at Olde Rope Mill Park. Between all three events, over 30 cubic yards of litter were prevented from entering Cherokee County waterways flowing into Lake Allatoona.

“The CCWSA would like to thank everyone who has participated in this year’s Rivers Alive events and the event partners who helped make it happen,” the authority said in a news release.
