‘Astonishing,’ Two motorcyclists lead CHP on 140 MPH high-speed pursuit on California highway

Over the weekend, officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Merced encountered a dangerous situation when they spotted two motorcycles speeding at an astonishing 126 MPH on Winton Way, significantly exceeding the 45 MPH speed limit. When the riders failed to pull over, a high-speed pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of up to 140 MPH on northbound SR-99.

With the assistance of CHP Modesto and Stanislaus County’s Air Unit, both riders were successfully apprehended—one at a gas station in Modesto and the other in Ripon. Thankfully, no injuries or property damage were reported during this reckless chase.

CHP officials emphasized the risks involved in such pursuits, stating, “Pursuits like this are extremely dangerous, and our officers work diligently to keep the public safe.” The swift actions of law enforcement prevented any harm, underscoring the importance of adhering to traffic laws.
