Just a year after the White Castle on Lake St. closed, the building will be slinging fast food once again.
Earlier this year, Bring Me The News reported that KFC would take up residence at the busy corner lot. Now, it’s ready.
The franchise-owned KFC will open on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 100 W. Lake St. according to a sign posted at the building.
The new KFC will be the only Minneapolis outpost for the fried chicken chain. While the familiar brand hasn’t had a restaurant in Minneapolis for a long time, it’s far from absent around the Twin Cities metro area. There are currently KFCs in Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Burnsville, Columbia Heights, Coon Rapids, Eagan, Oakdale, Roseville, St. Paul, and Vadnais Heights, per the chain’s location finder.
The White Castle had serving up sliders on the corner of Lake St. and Blaisdell Ave. since 1977 before quietly closing last fall. Its instantly recognizable castle architecture is now gone, replaced with KFC’s sleeker red and white branding.
