Man arrested after allegedly trying to break into another man’s car, shooting at car owner

A man was arrested hours after a shooting that occurred Tuesday morning during an attempted burglary in west Tallahassee.

Joseph Williams, 22, is facing charges of attempted homicide, armed auto burglary, possession of burglary tools, and failure to appear. He also had an active warrant for petit theft at the time of his arrest, according to a news release from the Tallahassee Police Department.

Officers were called to a home located at 2400 Jackson Bluff Road around 5:20 a.m. to investigate a shooting incident. The victim told police he saw a man trying to break into his car and began to chase Williams.

“The suspect then shot twice at the victim,” TPD said. “Thankfully, the victim was unharmed.”

Officers found Williams shortly after with a backpack containing gloves, a flashlight and a firearm used in the shooting, TPD said. As of Tuesday afternoon, court records with more details about the circumstances of the attempted burglary were unavailable.
