One council member said the city has had trouble financially supporting the zoo, and is considering transferring the ownership to a different organization.

One of those organizations is Erie Events, and council member Tyler Titus said that transfer would be a step in the right direction to protect a community asset.

“I think the community would get more options of animals, see more amenities, more modern updates, and that this becomes a stronger asset that can pull in more community members and a bigger drive of something fun to do with families,” said Titus.

Titus also said city council will discuss the transfer more before making a final decision.
