Pacific Symphony youth groups to give free concerts in November

Four groups of young musicians affiliated with Pacific Symphony Orchestra will give concerts at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa in November. Admission is free but tickets must be ordered online.

On November 17 at 1:00 pm, the Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band will perform works by Mozart, Brian Balmages, Julie Giroux, Johannes Hanssen, Alex Shapiro and Frank Ticheli.

Guest conductor and flute coach Haiyang Wang will lead the Youth Concert Band Flute Ensemble in performances of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, Movement 2 for flute ensemble and Nicole Chamberlain’s Railroaded for Flute Choir. Guest conductor Kevin Charoensri will lead the band in a performance of his original composition A Jasmine Tree.

On November 17 at 7:00 pm, the Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings will perform Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, Yukiko Nishimura’s Snowberry, Brian Balmages’s The Fire Within and Jeremy Woolstenhulme’s La Cascara. The string orchestra is performing under the direction of Dr. Johanna Gamboa-Kroesen, a professor at University of California, Los Angeles.
