US Abrams Tank in Ukraine War

Additional Coverage:

M1 Abrams Tank Spotted in Combat on Russian Soil

The M1 Abrams tank, designed to combat the Soviets during the Cold War, has reportedly been seen in combat on Russian soil. A video shared by Ukraine’s 47th Mechanized Brigade shows an Abrams operating alongside a Bradley fighting vehicle in the Kursk region.

A Formidable Duo

Ukraine has praised the effectiveness of the Abrams-Bradley duo, stating that it provides firepower and support for infantry operations. The video has been geolocated to Novoivanovka, a village in the Kursk region where Ukrainian forces launched a surprise invasion in August.

A Potential Russian Loss

This is believed to be the first known instance of Abrams tanks operating in Kursk. A Russian commander previously claimed that an Abrams had been destroyed, but this remains unconfirmed.

Additional Protection

While advanced and heavily armored, the Abrams tanks sent to Ukraine do not have the latest upgrades. Ukraine has added extra layers of protection to defend against incoming threats.

Vulnerabilities Remain

Despite these precautions, the Abrams is still vulnerable to threats like rockets and drones. Some estimates suggest that Ukraine has lost up to 16 tanks, but this has not been confirmed.
