U.S. Soldiers Injured in Raid Targeting ISIS Leaders

During an overnight raid in Iraq, two U.S. service members were injured. The mission, conducted jointly with Iraqi forces, targeted top ISIS leaders and resulted in the death of “several” operatives.

The Pentagon’s press secretary confirmed the raid, but provided limited details. The injuries of the U.S. soldiers were reported as stable.

Iraqi Prime Minister Al Sudani announced that the raid had successfully killed the new ISIS leader in Iraq, Jasim al-Masroui Abu Abdel Qadir, and eight other leaders.

The ISIS leader had recently taken over after another U.S.-Iraqi raid killed the previous leader two months ago.

Post-mission analysis is ongoing, and more information will be released when it becomes available.

Despite the territorial defeat of ISIS in 2019, there are still an estimated 2,500 ISIS fighters at large in Iraq and Syria.

U.S. forces continue to support Iraqi forces in preventing a resurgence of ISIS.
