As concerns about safety continue to rise amid headlines of mass shootings, natural disasters, and economic uncertainty, WalletHub has unveiled its ranking of the safest states in America for 2024. Topping the list is Vermont, followed closely by New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Utah.

Vermont stands out not just for its low crime rates but also for its strong economy, boasting the lowest unemployment rate in the nation at 2.1%. The state excels in financial safety, with minimal identity theft complaints and a high percentage of residents feeling secure in their neighborhoods. Nearly 77% of Vermont parents report living in safe areas, supported by a robust network of neighborhood watch groups.

New Hampshire, the second-safest state, showcases low rates of violence, including the fewest mass shootings in the past two years. More than 78% of residents feel they live in safe neighborhoods, benefiting from a low poverty rate and strong job market. Maine follows closely, ranking third due to its financial stability and low crime rates, particularly in violent offenses.
