2nd of 4 escaped South Carolina prison inmates found in North Carolina

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — The second of four inmates who escaped from the Chesterfield County Detention Center has been found and arrested, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Anton Conway Bennett, 30, was found around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. This is in Halifax County which is northeast of Raleigh and about 10 miles from Virginia.

Officers responded to the area of Clinton Street about a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived they found Bennett with the vehicle that appeared broken down.

During the interaction, officers were told that the vehicle was reported stolen from South Carolina. When the officer tried to detain Bennett, he ran but was quickly captured, officials said.

According to police, Bennett identified himself as Garmal Brown from Santee, South Carolina, but did not have any identification on him. He was initially booked under a $5,000 bond for possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. His court date was set for Friday, Oct. 18, and he was to be held until he had some form of ID.
