North Carolina roads continue to reopen weeks after Hurricane Helene’s damage

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Fewer than 500 roads in Western North Carolina remain closed almost a month after Hurricane Helene brought devastation to the area. The storm hit the Carolinas on Sept. 27 had had caused just under 1,300 road closures. By Oct. 23, 418 roads remained closed. Of those, 28 roads were closed to the public for work and supply trucks to use.
