The body of a 13-year-old girl was found on a Powell trail the afternoon of Oct. 22 and a 15-year-old boy was arrested by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Their identities have not been released, and the sheriff said the department is continuing to investigate what happened.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about 4:45 p.m. about a body on the trail in the Broadacres subdivision. At about 9 p.m., detectives arrested a 15-year-old suspect.
The boy has been charged with second-degree murder, Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler said at a news conference Oct. 22.
“Due to this active investigation, detectives are still looking for any leads that we need to do or follow up on,” Spangler said.
Spangler asked the community to pray for the family and give them space to heal,
“Nobody expects it, but to unexpectedly have someone show up on your doorstep and tell you something this tragic, its not only tough on that family but on the individuals that go there as well,” Spangler said. “Again my thoughts and prayers are certainly with this family.”
