ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Residents in Shore Acres, an area that’s prone to flooding, feel they’re getting left behind in recovery efforts.
St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch said no one will be left behind.
Amari Johnson and her mother, Lizette, picked up a few things at the free Relief and Market Grill in Shore Acres on Chancellor Street Northeast. The market formed when a neighbor lost everything in the back-to-back hurricanes. So another neighbor offered up her home, and now its front yard is dedicated to helping others.
“It’s very much appreciated,” Amari said.
The Johnsons are on the verge of being homeless. Their house flooded in the hurricanes.
“The AirBnb, we have to be out of there by the end of the month,” Lizette said. “The problem is that everywhere we try to find a house that didn’t flood to rent, we can’t find one.”
They said they haven’t been home since before Hurricane Helene. But they couldn’t help put notice all the storm debris still sitting in their neighborhood.
